Phlebotomist Basics

September 3, 2014 11:04 pm Published by Leave your thoughts

Phlebotomy is the process of making an incision in a vein with a needle. The procedure is known as a venipuncture and it is primarily used to collect blood.

2Phlebotomists are the people trained to draw the blood. Their duties include interpreting tests, drawing blood into the correct tubes, explaining procedures to patients and more.

Being able to work as a phlebotomist requires different educational degrees and certifications depending on what state you’re in. In California, as of 2003, all persons who are not California licensed physicians must become certified before they can draw blood.

The AUMT Institute in Southern California helps students obtain the license they need to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician with the best education possible for the lowest tuition in the state.
